June 2007 Show Postponed

We're sorry to announce that we've needed to cancel Motorheads 3rd Annual Car Show. Due to a major conflict in our schedule (daughter's college graduation), we've reluctantly decided that we will need to reschedule our event this June.

We've had such tremendous interest this year, and the show clearly is growing rapidly. We have had triple the number of requests compared to the same time last year, and a growing number of interested vendors and exhibitors. We've looked at all possible solutions to keep the show on schedule, but due to the incredible amount of time needed to organize an event this large, we have no other choice.

We look forward to an event sometime after Fall of 2007. In the meanwhile, we hope you all enjoy a season filled with fun events. And again, Motorheads Performance would like to thank all of our customers and supporters forthe interest you have had in our car show and look forward to future events we will bring your way.

Car Show or Cruise?

Throughout the year, we've spoke with many enthusiasts who have expressed the desire to attend a cruise as opposed to a car show. Motorheads is interested in hearing your opinion. We'd like to do something fun and a bit different, and since car shows abound in Texas, we'd like to hear your ideas on a nice get-together for hot rod and classic car lovers.

Please e-mail me with your vote:

1) Car Show only
2) Cruise only
3) Combination Show & Cruise

Or, do you have another suggestion? Write and let me know. Send to andrea@motorheadscarshow.com. We'll be pulling together the results and helping this guide us in the upcoming year's plans for Motorheads Car Show or other events.

Thanks in advance. We'll post news of this next month so hurry in your responses.

Car Show Photos

As many of you already know, we had a catastrophe hit with our memory stick and all of the photos from Motorheads 2nd Annual Car Show were unaccessible. After two months of attempted restoration of the memory stick by Nikon, we were only able to get a small portion of the pictures in useable form.

The bad news - all photos of the car and truck entries were lost.
The good news - we have photos of the award ceremony.
More good news - we have photos of our celebrity guest, 2003 Playboy playmate.

I have to admit that I've been distraught over this and it took the steam out of my sail for these last two months. Now I feel guilty for not keeping in touch, but that's in the past and we move on.

Now that we have the images safely downloaded onto the computer, I will post them to the website. Expect them to post within the week. And, to our Best of Show and Celebrity Choice winners - expect your 8x10 glossy in the mail shortly!

Thanks to everyone for your patience. I'm putting out the call now for volunteers for next year's show in order to ensure we don't have a mishap like this next June. If you're interested, contact me at andrea@motorheadsperformance.com.

Motorheads Judges at Car Show

Guy Algar, Motorheads' Shop Manager, was selected as one of the three Official Judges for Gonzales' annual "Come & Take It" Car Show which was held Sunday, October 8 in Gonzales, Texas. Andrea was in attendance taking photos, of course, which will be posted to motorheadscarshow.com this coming weekend.

The show this year drew more entries than last year, drawing 28 cars and trucks from the 1940's to 2005, giving quite a variety of vehicles for spectators to look over.

We're pleased to have been chosen for this honor, and have been invited back next year to participate in the event. We will announce details of the 2007 event as plans unfold.

Motorheads Classic Car Parade & Exhibition

We're putting out an initial call for cars and trucks to participate in a parade and exhibition during the October "Come And Take It" festivities in Gonzales, Texas.

Motorheads Performance has been asked by the City of Gonzales to put together an exhibition of classic, antique and custom cars for their yearly celebration marking the first battle for Texas' independence, which was fought in Gonzales back in .... To mark the occasion, the City comes together with a weekend full of activities for people from all around the state the first weekend in October each year.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Come And Take It...a bit of interesting history: Gonzales was established in 1825 and within three years more than 100 families had arrived to settle the colony. A population of 532 in 1831 convinced the Mexican government to send a six-pound cannon to Gonzales for protection against Indian raids. The colony sent delegates to the conventions of 1832 and 1833 and to the Consultation of 1835. The Mexican government considered the conventions a treasonable act, and in September 1835 Mexican troops were sent to Gonzales to retrieve the cannon. On October 2, at the battle of Gonzales, the colonists resisted the attempts of Mexican troops to confiscate the cannon, alledgedly telling the troops that if they wanted the cannon, they'd have to "come and take it". This cannon fired the first shot in the Texas Revolution on October 2, 1835, marking the battle which became known as the "Come and Take It" battle, which was the first armed encounter of the Texas Revolution. Sam Houston's order to retreat and the burning of Gonzales after the battle of the Alamo began the Runaway Scrape.

Motorheads is uniting car owners to form a parade around town, followed by a car show style exhibition. The exhibition will be free to the public, and free to the participants! We'll be announcing more details in the coming weeks, but we're starting our list of men and women who are interested in registering their vehicle for the event. Individuals as well as car clubs are welcome and encouraged to attend. Participants will have an opportunity to show their cars to hundreds of people who will gather to watch the parade and to walk through the cars on display. Show your ride off in a non-competitive fun atmosphere. You'll have opportunity to talk cars with fellow enthusiasts while spending a fun day outdoors at a time of year when we're starting to cool off a bit!

Please contact andrea@motorheadsperformance.com or call 830-424-3883 for more details and to put your name on our initial list of interested antique, classic or custom car owners. Motorheads Performance, hosts of the event, are located in Leesville, Texas, approximately 20 miles Southwest of Gonzales.

Reappearance by Celebrity Guest?

Motorheads Car Show was honored to have Playboy Playmate Rebecca Ramos select our Celebrity's Choice Award for our 2006 show. Her choice of cars was our #44 entry, a 2002 Ford Mustang Roush II convertible belonging to Pete Leura.

Lucky Pete walked off with a trophy awarded by the January 2003 centerfold, as well as receiving our Ladies Choice trophy and 1st Place in our 1980's & Up class. He'll be pleased to receive the photo of his award presentation which is on it's way! Pete's great looking red Roush Mustang boasts lambo doors, customized interior, hood and sound/video systems and runs a 4.6 injected engine that turns 365 hp. Our congratulations to Pete for putting together such a spectacular car!

Turns out that our Celebrity Guest had a great time at the show and will consider an appearance next year if ya'll are interested! (We had many of you ask if she'd be back again next year.) We need to hear from you. If you would like another shot at catching Rebecca's eye with your car, e-mail me at andrea@motorheadscarshow.com. Let her know you want her at the show...send a fan letter...send a picture of the car you'll be bringing...send a brief history on your ride...convince her that she won't want to miss out! If I hear from enough of you, I'll let her know you want her back again in June 2007 and to put Motorheads 3rd Annual Car Show on her busy calendar! Let's hear from you soon...

Next year's event is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2007. Stay tuned for news on events by Motorheads Performance (www.motorheadsperformance.com) by checking back regularly. We've got great things planned.

Post-Show News

I wanted to thank everyone who came to the show and made it a success! Comments we received were positive and it seemed as though everyone had a great time. Our Celebrity Guest was a huge surprise for everyone, and the winners who got to have their picture taken with Rebecca Ramos, January 2003 Playboy Centerfold, were truly happy! The trophies went out to some great cars, and we were extremely pleased with the caliber of cars in attendance.

Despite being severely short-staffed at the last minute, a major problem with my camera's memory card, and a few small snaffoo's, the show went smooth although I was much busier and more pre-occupied than I had intended. I had hoped that I would get more opportunity to meet and talk with every one of you, and I have resolved to set things up differently next year so that I will have the time.

We had over 70 giveaway items which included caps, tee shirts, discount coupons, jacket, duffle bag, car care kits and more! Sponsors supplied great goodie-bag items such as stickers, product samples, magnets and brochures so everyone left with something nice.

I'd love to hear from everyone and get comments (even criticisms) and suggestions for next year's show. I'm already starting plans for next June, and Guy and I are contemplating a second show in the Fall. Let us hear from you. Would you be interested in a show in October or November?

Visit back for my next post announcing Motorheads Car Club Network, which will hold it's first meeting in Leesville on Saturday, July 15 from 6-9 pm.

Again, our thanks to everyone. Please drop me a line at andrea@motorheadscarshow.com.

A Thanks to All Our Supporters

Well, with only two hours to go before we leave for the showgrounds to do our final setups for Motorheads 2nd Annual Car Show & Swap in Gonzales, we're busy getting everything ready, trucks and vehicles packed, and hoping we don't forget anything important!

I've received a lot of calls over the past several days...all sorts of questions, all sorts of stories, all sorts of cars! People are coming from all over Texas and beyond. We're excited about the response, and feel the show will be a great success. Guy and I wanted to thank all of you for your interest and your support. I'll check back with you after the show to give you a recap of all the days events for those of you who had to miss out on the fun. We hope you'll make it next year (which, if you can believe it, will be even bigger and better!).

Thanks again for everything. Please continue to visit www.motorheadscarshow for photos of the show, and to see plans unfold for next years show. We'll also be adding an order form for those of you who wish to purchase a car show tee-shirt. Stay tuned by visiting our e-newsletter to keep informed of all the news relating to Motorheads Car Show.

EWald Donates Use of Vehicle

With the show unfolding tomorrow, we were pleasantly surprised by EWald Tractor's offer of use of an ATV to help Motorheads Car Show Staff get around the show grounds quickly. This came at a time when the ATV we had lined up fell through with only two days to go! We're grateful for the help EWald Tractor has offered.

Please visit www.ewaldtractor.com for information about the tractors and equipment that they carry. Name brands such as Rhino, Kubota, Echo, Case, Woods and New Holland are backed up by friendly, knowledgeable staff at EWald. Simpson Racing Sponsors Show

Simpson Racing heard of our show and jumped on board with sponsorship and some great give-away items for Saturday's show.

Simpson Racing is well known for their quality racing products. Driving Shoes, Helmets, Safety Harnesses, Gloves and Shift Boot Covers are just some. We're excited that Simpson Performance Products and the entire Simpson Racing Team have stepped forward to sponsor Motorheads Car Show, and that they're offering such great gifts! Please visit Simpson Racing at www.simpsonracing.com.

With only a day to go before the show, things are moving in high gear! Guy, Andrea and the whole Motorheads Team is working hard to get things set up so that our big day goes smoothly. Weather is supposed to be nice, and we know you'll all be relieved to know that every day a nice breeze blows through the pavilion at the JB Wells Park in Gonzales. We've got car clubs and vehicles coming from all over and can't wait to see what you're bringing!

I've Been Corrected

Oops! I stand corrected. I mentioned that Motorheads Car Show's Celebrity Guest was "featured" in a magazine, and I've been told I made a horrible mistake by not saying that she was the "Centerfold".
Car Clubs Issue Challenge!

I've heard from many car clubs, not only in Texas, but beyond as well. I know of at least two clubs which will be joining up for a caravan into Gonzales this Saturday for the Motorheads 2nd Annual Car Show & Swap, which starts at 11 am.

Cars, trucks and other vehicles will begin arriving as early as 9:30 to prepare for the show, and it looks like we'll have a lively competition for this year's Best Attended Car Club award! Get your club together and join in on the fun. Caravans are great fun and attract a lot of attention which is great for all hot-rodders. If you're planning a caravan, please drop me a note and let me know! (andrea@motorheadscarshow.com)

The City of Gonzales has opened up the field and is grooming it as this goes to print. The show grounds should be in great form for the show cars. With the touch of rain we got late last week the grass has softened and greened up (Whew! Much less chance of fires from hot exhausts!). The large covered pavilion is being readied for spectators and participants, and we've got plenty of parking available.

We've been having hot days, but after 2-3pm the nice cool winds begin. The pavilion is located in a perfect spot which catches the constant breeze so I'm sure that by the time The Harleys are ready to begin their concert and dance at 5pm it'll be comfortable and relaxing. Don't miss out.

Visit www.motorheadscarshow.com for more information and be sure to scroll down the articles here to see all of the latest news on the show.

Trophies Are In!

I wish I was able to enter a car myself! We've received the trophies and they are beautiful! If all the activities we have are not enough to convince you to come, the trophies should win you over!

As I've mentioned earlier, the Awards Ceremony has been bumped up because of the numbers of trophies which will be awarded this year. We've got over 50 trophies and awards, as well as giveaway and raffle items contributed by our Sponsors.

Our sponsors now top over 25, and most all are big-names such as MSD, Edelbrock, Flowmaster, Holley, Painless, Be Cool, Summit Racing Equipment, Hurst, ididit, California Car Covers, and more. Most recently Zoop Products, makers of ZoopSeal Protective Sealer and Zoop Shine Metal Polish, has joined us. Check back for more info on Zoop in my next post.

Don't miss the excitement at Motorheads 2nd Annual Car Show on Saturday June 10 in Gonzales, Texas. Less than a week until the fun! Visit www.motorheadscarshow.com.

Bring your Unfinished Project to the Car Show!

I've been getting a lot of calls the past two weeks. Seems like there are still some questions about the classes available. We do have something for just about everyone, and you shouldn't feel left out just because you don't have your ride in top show condition.

Surprisingly, some have missed the fact that we have a class for unfinished cars! Our Restoration Vehicles is perfect for the enthusiast who hasn't yet finished their project. Your project can be in any stage at all...even if it doesn't yet run (yes, just trailer her down!). At Motorheads, we think it's a great way to inspire others. Share your dream on how you invision finishing your project (it may just inspire you to get things going full swing!) and let others catch the restoration fever. We're awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies and find that this class is usually a lot of fun.

The Most Ambitious Restoration Project and Stock Restoration Awards require special entry. Winner will be determined by Motorheads Performance. See Andrea at the Information Booth for an entry form.

Whether you're with a car club or just do this on your own we want to see your projects! Find a way to get her down to the show in Gonzales Saturday June 10th. I'll even reduce the entry fee to a very affordable $10 per vehicle to anyone who mentions reading this offer in our newsletter!

Hope to see you there.

  • Show 11:00 AM - (arrive between 9 & 11)
  • Awards Ceremony 3-5 PM - (over 50 trophies!!!)

Motorheads 2nd Annual Car Show & Swap
Saturday June 10, 2006
JB Wells Park Pavilion in Gonzales , Texas
(intersections 183 & 97 south of town, across from Circle G Truck Stop)
Watch for the Purple "Car Show" signs along the way!!!
Celebrity Guest Elicits Great Curiosity!

Ok...ok...ever since I alluded to our "Celebrity Guest" a couple of weeks ago, I've been getting all sorts of e-mail asking who she is! Can't say I blame you, but there's still part of me that wants me to hold onto the surprise of it. Without wanting to give the whole surprise away, I CAN say that she is beautiful. (Yes, she has graced the pages of a well-known publication, was the feature for that month and has two distinctions which make her "a first" to the magazine - but you didn't hear it from me!)

All I can say is that someone is going to be one happy man if she selects his car as her personal favorite! In order to be eligible for this trophy, you must:
  1. Have a vehicle registered as a show entry at Motorheads Car Show (I honestly don't know whether she'll prefer a car, motorcycle, truck or what).
  2. Have your vehicle set up at the showgrounds by 11am so you don't miss the voting (spectators vote from 11:30 to 2:00pm and our Celebrity Guest will be on hand at some point during that time to cast her vote).
  3. Behave yourself! No drooling, slobbering, making silly comments, pushing, fighting or swearing allowed (we're still a family event and intend on keeping this appropriate. PLEASE remember this is for the Boy Scouts and TYRA).
Message To The Winner - Yes, she will personally present you with your special trophy during the Awards Ceremony. If everyone behaves, I'll do my best to make sure you get a picture of your trophy presentation so you have proof for all your friends. (Due to the number of trophies to hand out, the Awards Ceremony has been bumped up to start at 3pm instead of 4pm!)

Parents are advised that this is not a "babysitting" service, and children should be monitored for their safety, however it will be an excellent way of letting the kids burn off some steam so that they'll be more content during the show.

Visit Eagle Rentals for your party needs. They have a full line of equipment and party rental items and are easy to work with. Call them at 830-303-2600 or visit their website at www.eaglerental.com.

Car Show Benefits Community Youth

Motorheads Annual Car Show raises funds for the youth of South Central Texas. Proceeds from the show go to local troops of the Boy Scouts of America and the Texas Youth Rodeo Association.
This year, our 2nd annual event on June 10th, we're hoping to raise enough funds to send local Boy Scout troops to summer camp and to make a financial donation to TYRA. Our goal for the Boy Scouts alone is $2,000 for camp. In addition to funds raised by sponsorships, vendor fees and show participants, we welcome private and corporate donations.

Visit our sponsor board during the event to see the list of local and area individuals and businesses who have elected to support our causes! The Nixon Boy Scout troop is also in dire need of an enclosed cargo trailer so they can haul their equipment to various troop events and outings throughout the year. Motorheads Performance will donate the labor to perform any minor repairs needed to make a donated trailer road-worthy. We welcome residents and/or businesses to donate a used trailer, or make monetary donations so that we can set aside funds to purchase a used trailer for the scouts.

For more information about the car show and our causes, please visit www.motorheadscarshow.com. Anyone with information or questions may contact andrea@motorheadscarshow.com or call Motorheads at 830-424-3883.

The girls will meet and greet car show participants and help make presentations of trophies at the Awards Ceremony.
